Our firm advises international and domestic private clients in all aspects of this field, including: tendering and public procurement, joint venture and corporate structures, contract law (including advise under FIDIC and AIA contract forms) and surety law. During project execution, our firm supports our clients in claims and dispute resolutions, as well as in the handling of labor relations (including labor contracts, immigration, union relations and collective bargaining agreements).
In this field we currently represent, among others, the executors of projects such as the design and construction of the Third Set of Locks Project of the Panama Canal Expansion Program, the construction of a third suspension bridge over the Panama Canal, the development of large hydroelectric projects as well as large-scale port operators across the country.
Representative transactions
- We advised PSA PANAMA INTERNATIONAL TERMINAL, S.A. with the preparation, negotiation and conclusion of a new contract-law between the company and the Republic of Panama, in which PSA PANAMA INTERNATIONAL TERMINAL, S.A. commits to develop, construct, operate, and administer a bulk cargo and ro-ro containers terminal through and investment of USD$350 million
- We acted as lead counsel to VINCI in connection with the public bid process undertaken by the Panama Canal Authority for the construction of a suspension bridge over the Panama Canal (Atlantic side).
- We advised Grupo Unidos por el Canal (“GUPC”), the consortium (which includes several of the world’s largest construction and dredging companies) responsible for the construction of the Panama Canal Expansion Project (i.e., the Third Set of Locks).
- We advised IDEAL PANAMA S.A., a subsidiary of Carlos Slim’s infrastructure development company, in the development and operation of two hydroelectric power plants in Panama.
